Inspiring New Additions to the Sister Support Lending Library

One of my greatest weaknesses has always been books.  Shiny new books, dog-eared second-hand books and now even ebooks lure me in, time and again.  I’m particularly powerless in the face of inspiring books that promote normal birth and help parents connect with their babies.

As a birth professional, I feel it’s important to have a broad range of birth and parenting materials available for my clients to borrow.  Not every book will appeal to every person, so I like to have a full spectrum, from the more scientific (such as Henci Goer’s ‘The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth’) to the more fun (such as Kate Evans’ comic book style ‘The Food of Love:  Your Formula for Successful Breastfeeding’).  In addition, differences in learning styles mean that some clients benefit more from watching a DVD or listening to an audio CD than from reading a book, so I like to add regularly to my media collection as well.

The bottom line is that I’m thrilled to have an excuse to add to the ever-growing materials in my lending library.  I get to pretend that these new books, DVDs and CDs are just for my clients when the truth is that I enjoy them more than anyone else!  A special word of gratitude to those former clients who donated books – your generosity is much appreciated.
